Default IPod Touch compatibility

I have a 4th generation ipod touch and when plugged in, the music would play for a few minutes then the sound would quit but the music was still playing but no sound. I would have to turn off the unit then back on. This would be good for a little while then it would go off again.
Does anyone have this problem with their ipod connection? Nissan has ordered another audio unit.
Thanks
