Question Wind issues

Hello all!
I have a question I need some help with.
I'm going to be getting a new cube next month but... I've gathered that the cube can be a handful in the wind.
I've spent my whole life riding motorcycles which are always getting tossed around in crosswinds.
The other posts all say "just use both hands in crosswinds".
Due to a stroke, I'll be driving with my right hand only. Out here in the desert, we have frequent 20-30 mph gusty crosswinds. The Cube is so perfect for me in all ways except for the crosswind thing.
Do you think the Cube might be bad Idea? I figure if it was TOO bad they couldn't sell them but mabe some input from windy area owners could make me feel a little better....Thanks!

I think with any kind of box on wheels you are subject to movement with a strong crosswind. But that being said, I haven't had any issues with the cube as it relates to wind, and we have had some pretty strong winds this year. My wife has a Honda Element which is a bigger box on wheel and I notice the winds much more in her car. Best advice is try to take a test drive on a windy day and see what you think, but I think you'll be ok driving one handed even with the crosswinds.

Default wind issues

Thanks a lot Gary!
You don't know how helpful your answer was.
I've been through a lot recently & it seemed like cube was some comic relief I needed. My kids think that it's great and all of the other quirky things about the car fit into my needs so well but I just didn't know...
I WILL be test driving one 1st & I'll see if they'll let me take it out on the 14 in the afternoon. It's always windy then.
Thanks again...RON

Smile cube in windy conditions

Hey Papa Goofy, It is hard to beat a Cube, I love mine --- had it for 11 months, about 14,000 miles, no problems, great A/C -- been saving me in this hot, hot summer we have been having in NJ this year. As far as the winds are concerned, I was concerned at first, that is until I drove over a high bridge with crosswinds and gusts between 30 and 45 --- I did not move anymore than anyone else.

Hope you have as much fun in your as I do in mine!

Hi Papa Goofy - I don't think you should worry about the wind at all. It's about the same as any other small car, and I've usually had small cars (VW, Dodge Spirit, PT Cruiser, Escort, etc.)

We've been riding motorcycles for years too, and compared to riding in the wind, the Cube will be easy for you! Ever ridden your bike all day in wind so strong you ride leaning over most of the day? Or those winds that are real sudden gusts that knock you for a loop? Now THAT'S riding in the WIND!

So I'd say that with you having been a biker, you'll have no problem with the wind in the Cube! I've had my Cube since 10/09 and I LOVE IT! A real conversation starter too!

ENJOY!

Default wind

Hey skycrowe & Jo Anne...
Thanks a lot to you for easing my worry.
Looks like the Cube is still a GO. I've been considering 3 or 4 other cars but I keep going back to the Cube. I guess "different" cars must be in my DNA.
When I was in high school & all the guys had '32 Fords & "A" roadsters, I had a 500cc Fiat Topolino.
This seems to be the best Forum I've tried as far as getting a good, helpful reply. Thanks all... RON

Hey Papa Goofy - I ride a Can-Am Spyder and drive a Cube, so you KNOW I like
"different" looking vehicles! My husband wonders what category that puts HIM in! LOL!

Good luck with your decision -- if you do decide on a Cube, you'll love your ride!

I went over the Tacoma-Narrows Bridge the other day, the "Galloping Gertie" bridge that all fell apart a long time back .... I felt the winds a bit, little shifting feelings, but not swerving around by any means. It was no worse that my truck.
