Default Windshield Chips

I have owned my Cube since 1/9/2010. I was wondering if anyone else feels like the windshield chips easily. I do a fair amount of freeway driving but I feel like I have acquired more than a normal amount of rock divits. Before my cube I would drive my 1996 Acura Integra the same route and did not seem to have the same problem.

I haven't seen a single chip on mine, I take bi-monthly trips to Chicago too. That's a good 200 miles driving every two weeks all highway.

Yes, my windshield is full of chips after 6 months. I also find that the paint chips off very easily. I don't understand why they are so fragile other than the fact that they aren't very aerodynamic, so it might be like a vacuum for road debris. I would love if they did a recall on the windshield.
I still like my Cube but it has more damage from the road than my 3 year old Toyota Yaris which has many many more miles on it.

Mine is chiped and now cracked and spreading. But I'm not gonna address it until the late spring when all the crap has washed off the roads.

It is caused by a combination of things. The angle of the window is quite steep so things hit it a bit harder. Also, the glass is softer these days and chips very easy. Mine has a few wee dings at this point, but nothing big. I installed one of the Nissan air deflectors on the front of the car and this does seem to help a bit.

I was leaning towards the steep slope of the windshield being the main problem to.

Windshields these days are not what they used to be. They are mostly made offshore now and as well, the glass formulas have changed. According to several friends that have been in the glass business for 25 or 30 years, you will find that almost any make of vehicle will get marks on the windshield much easier than they used to.

My wife has a 2008 Honda Element, a boxy car also with a fairly straight up windshield, and she has gotten several chips in hers also. I think it's just due to the angle of the windshield and the aerodynamics (or lack of) in a car such as these. I don't think there's anything to do with changes in the glass, just the angle of it. So I doubt Nissan or any auto company will do anything about this as it would probably require redesigning the car to slope the winshield more, and that would ruin the look they have gotten with the car that we all bought.
