Hey Everyone,

My wife has decided to purchase the Nissan Cube in White and the 1.8 SL version. Quite the interesting car, rather different from the Subaru Wrx she sold and the Honda S2000 I drive.

We made the decision to purchase this car as we will need a more spacious car in the near future.

I have one question though, the CVT transmission in something I have never experienced. I really should have done more research but she loves it and went with through with the purchase.

Can anyone please provide me some personal insight on this transmission.

Many Thanks in Advance,
Chris

Welcome to the forum!

I don't have much knowledge about cars, but I think the CVT is really nice. You never feel any shifting at all, it just goes! I guess someone with more car knowledge will have to post!

I CAN tell you that I absolutely LOVE my Cube!

HEH thanks for the response I'm glad to hear you enjoy your Cube.

That is what I found very different. The CVT just kept going lol... almost as if it didn't want to shift... I've driven other automatic cars I was waiting for the transmission to shift... the revs just kept raising...

The CVT is nice. Before my wife's Versa, we had an '07 Altima with the CVT. From what I've read it's a very reliable tranny. They've reported Muranos with over 200k on them with the CVT still going strong. Before trading in the Altima, we got a letter saying Nissan extended the warranty on the CVT up to 10yr/150k because people were worried it would cost a lot to replace down the road. I loved it! Great for economy, and also keeps the car in the perfect power band for performance when you're on the pedal.

Thanks that is very comforting to here.

We reside in Canada I can't recall the warranty on the transmission I will have to confirm if it's 150K as well.

Thanks!

If you want to see a CVT in action go to the Subaru web site. They have a picture and explain how it works.

Smile tranny

Hey Bonkers -- it is a great tranny in my opinion. After moving to NJ and driving in this traffic in my 5 speed Ford F150 4x4, I began to have a strong dislike for shifting. Bought the Cube 21 Aug. --already have 8500 miles on it and have never been happier with a car. It just fits me and I am bigger than the average bear, and the tranny makes my driving a pleasure. It is quick, responsive, smooth, and always seems to be in the right gear. Have fun, whenever your wife allows you behind the wheel.
