I just called the dealer where I ordered my cube from, just to check on things. Lo and behold, the salesperson just informed me that Nissan has put a production halt on the Versa and the cube. According to this guy it would be June before Nissan would begin to manufacture either Versas or cubes. Has anyone else heard anything about this? Where would I look up information on this to see if this guy is just blow smoke, of if it's real?
I was told I can either wait until August, or I can compromise on what I'm looking for. A cube similar to what I want was delivered to a city about 200 miles away. My salesman has offered to send his driver down and drive it here for me. Then he can order the rest of the accessories for me. I can possibly take possession of the car 3uesday, then go back in a week to have the accessories installed. It'll have a black interior instead of grey, but other than that, it's what I wanted.
From what the dealer explained, they aren't discontinuing either car, they just aren't going to manufacture them (or the Versa) for a few months. It's not going to affect any that have already been manufactured, just special orders or re-orders. My local dealer just got a re-stock shipment, so provided he doesn't sell more than about 7 a month they won't need to re-order again for a few months anyway. I still haven't had anyone from Nissan USA confirm this, and I didn't check with any other local dealers to confirm with them, either.
Don't know why, perhaps they aren't selling as quickly? Since Versa and cube are both affected, seems to me it would have something to do with availability of the parts.
I'm not super hot on the black interior, it shows lint like nobody's business. Or cat hair (my buddy has a couple of cats) or anything that's light colored and leaves fuzz. But I can deal.

Good luck with whatever you end up with. I had to stay flexible with our purchase. I wanted White or Red with Black. Ended up with Steel & Grey. No regrets.
Luckily, if the buyer has to be flexible, that usually means the dealer will be pretty flexible on the price and adding options. Even though our Versa wasn't exactly what my wife wanted, our Nissan dealer pretty much bent over backwards to make the figures so appealing we couldn't turn them down.
