Question How to finagle a better price-I want to buy a Cube!!

I want to buy a Cube. I test drove one in the summer and loved it. But, the dealer said his hands were tied and he could not lower the price....there were no promotions, no rebates - nothing. The only bargain that he would give me was throwing in 4 winter tires. As the Cube came out so late in 2009, and as they are not budging, can I have your opinions, experiences, advice, etc. on HOW I can purchase a 2009 Cube, and finagle a better price? If I keep on waiting, i.e. will the price go down in 2010? How much can I expect it to go down, each passing month of the coming new year? Thank you.

My Cube listed for 19,910. I paid about $19,830 total. DO NOT PAY more than the sticker. My tag was extra. The dealer fees were removed. Competitively shop. These are not selling. Do not let the salesman tell you how hot they are. They told me they would give me one price.....that changed 3 times.

Dealers rarely mark down brand new cars when there is a new release. couple that with the fact that the cube is a fairly cheap car and does not have much mark up built into the msrp (particularly the base cubes. I paid sticker "15059" for my cube. I wasnt going to sit there and fistfight for a 200 mark down. Espescially with Obama giving me 4500.00 for my trade.

oddly enough, when a new car that is very unique hits, there is usually the chance dealers sell it for above sticker. Remember when the PT cruiser came out? People were paying 30000 for base PT's when they first hit. NEVER do that. I dont know if that is hapenning alot with the cube or not.

my dealer tried to hit me with that is a back door way and I spotted that in the F and I office before signing the paperwork, they chalked it up to a "typo" and corrected it.

White Cube -

The Cube is selling pretty well around here, especially for a new model AND the current economic condition. The dealers in my area are having trouble keeping them in stock!

ohskigod -

In 2001, I was one of those people who REALLY wanted a PT Cruiser. In my area, people were paying really high prices for them -- it was crazy! I had a $500 deposit on one in my area, and waited several months, getting lots of excuses, but no car.

I finally got on the Internet and started searching for "MSRP PT Cruiser" and found a wonderful dealership, Pomoco Chrysler in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They got me a top of the line PT in the color I wanted (dark Cranberry) for MSRP in TWO WEEKS! We took a nice little overnight drive to Virginia, got my car and came home. Even with the overnight stay, meals and gas, we still saved a bundle over what they were charging people in my area!

And yes, I got my deposit back from the first dealer!

Default Use CostCo!

We have used the CostCo Auto buying service twice now and have been so happy doing so. Even if you are not a member, get one for $50 (I think) and save big. We just bought our Cube Saturday with it and our price was a full grand off MSRP! and we will get a fifty dollar gift card from costco to use on parts or service at our dealership after filling out a quick survey (which negates the price of the costco membership right there)

We ordered the Caribbean Blue SL with the SL Preferred Package. We got $1000 off MSRP just by making the dealer a counter offer. Plus, they said the car "had" to be ordered with the Interior Designer Package, the Interior Illumination Package and the Splash Guards. We said, "no deal, we only want the SL Preferred Package". They caved and said since the car had to be ordered this way (BULL!) these items would be on the car and they wouldn't charge us for them! We were certyainly skeptical!

We waited almost 4 months for the car (my many whining posts are somewhere on this board). We were positive they'd figure a way to change the deal, especially since the dealership was bought out during the wait.
However, the deal went through exactly as written, and they even gave us the original trade in for my PT Cruiser, even though it was 3+ months later!

ME HAPPY NOW! LOVE MY CUBE!
