When driving for a 1,000 km trip (600 miles), I put the cruise control on at 100 km/h (60 mph) and got an average of 6.5 liters per 100 km (36 mpg).

That was also with heater on, and an ipod and a laptop drawing power from the car.

As for the estimated remaining fuel, I have found that it all depends on how well you did in the last fill up. Driving a short trip to work and home, I get half the above mileage, due to stop lights and idling the engine to warm it up in the morning. It will read 400 km to a tank. When I finished the above mentioned trip, the estimate almost doubled for a full tank.

Those of you who do not get a full tank of gas, according to the gas gauge...
After you do the fast fill, and the pump stops, do you then pump slowly to get the last one and a half gallons in to the tank? It's a 13 gallon tank, and the last 1/8th to 1/10th of the tank has to be filled slowly, or the gas station pump will stop automatically.

Another possible fix for the impatient, get some glow in the dark paint, and add the top line of the fuel gauge display on yourself.

First, the thread is regarding faulty gas gauges, usually due to a bad fuel sending unit, not fuel economy, stay on topic. Second, 100km is 62.1mph. not 60 so all your figures are incorrect. Lastly the fuel tank is 13.2 gallons not 13 once again rendering your post inaccurate and irrelevant.

13 gallons. 13.2 gallons. Either way, it's more accurate than the post I was referencing. As you seem to want to be exact about everything, it's actually 50 liters. 13.2086026 gallons.

6.5 liters per 100 km = 36.186859 miles per gallon. Accurate enough for you? I said 36 mpg. Sorry for being off by such a large extent.

As for the fuel gauge, if the problem has been "fixed" half a dozen times, including all parts replaced, and the problem is still happening, then just maybe the car owner is not fully filling the tank.

I have to agree with half-mad on this...

let's just guestimate our numbers..
and i am one of the few (or many) that got everything replaced and the dender unit replaced twice.. and STILL had the issue.. because I don't have the gut to fill extra 2 (guessing) gallons after the auto shut off, I got the sender unit adjusted half inch so it will show full on the gauge...
i actually had to get the sender unit adjusted twice... the first time was waaaaay off.. now, it's pretty guesstimatical so it's ok

23 times to the dealership for me !!! wooo hoo
