Default Gear shift arm shorter?

My knee presses into the gear shift arm in my automatic causing some discomfort on long rides; if it were shorter it would be much more comfortable. Does anyone else have this problem or know whether the length of the arm can be shortened?

Not sure how you mean your knee is hitting the gearshift arm. I have an automatic, and my gearshift lever is in the center consold between the front seats, no where near my knee or leg even. Do you have a shifter on the column?

I know this thread is dead, but did anyone find a way to shorten that shaft? I'm thinking about buying a used 09 cube sL but I have the same problem, the gear shifter pushes against my leg... and it is an automatic, I think the overdrive button is the only electronic part of the shifter, but the "locking" button that you have to push to put the car in gear may be electrical as well
