It is caused by a combination of things. The angle of the window is quite steep so things hit it a bit harder. Also, the glass is softer these days and chips very easy. Mine has a few wee dings at this point, but nothing big. I installed one of the Nissan air deflectors on the front of the car and this does seem to help a bit.
