2010 Nissan Cube Review |
|
Jun 24, 2009 - 5:30 PM - by Administrator

Forget the Scion xB and Kia Soul, in comparison the Nissan Cube makes those cars look about as cutting edge as a Corolla. Sure on a computer screen they all look like funky economy cars, but in real life the Cube is drastically different.
Part of what makes the Cube so unique is that it is a box, but at the same time incredibly round. But what really separates the Cube from the pack is its asymmetrical design. Nissan representatives won't say for sure, but they believe the Cube is the only car in the world where the left and right sides aren't identical.
The difference isn't at first obvious, but it's actually a major part of the car. Look back towards the rear and you'll see the driver's side rear pillar is a typical painted piece of bodywork, while on the passenger side the pillar is actually "invisible." It's covered by glass,... [Read More]

Nissan to Build Electric Cars in the U.S. |
|
Jun 22, 2009 - 2:07 PM - by Administrator
|
A U.S. government initiative that would see low-interest loans granted to automakers who build environmentally-friendly cars in the U.S. appears to have one taker - Nissan. The Japanese automaker will spend anywhere from $500 million to $1 billion to update its Smyrna, Tennessee plant to build a green car and produce lithium-ion batteries.
While no specifics have been given the environmentally-friendly car is expected to be an electric vehicle based on an existing Nissan small-car platform. That leaves either the Versa or the new third-generation Cube. Nissan is currently testing an electric powertrain in a second generation Cube.
The Smyrna, Tennessee plant will be able to produce anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 of the electric vehicles annually by 2012. Nissan will begin electric car production in Japan in late 2010, with an expected annual production of... [Read More]

2010 Nissan Cube First Drive |
|
Apr 20, 2009 - 10:17 AM - by Administrator
|
All right, confession time: this is the first vehicle I've ever driven that I haven't opened the hood. It'd be an insult. Really. I usually drive a vehicle for a little bit, pull over, and prop open the hood to either point and laugh ("Ha! Ha!") at the engine's pathetic-ness, or marvel at its spleen squashing superformance.
Doing that on the Cube is like playing with your iPhone for a few hours, then tearing off the backside to marvel at all those microchips and things. The Cube's engine makes it move, and that’s fine. It's not the point — this square is more than the sum of its parts.
Nissan says that the last-generation Cube was inspired by consumer product design, but the current one was softened by organic forms. Look at it from 100 feet away, and it looks like a silly box on top of four silly, small wheels. Step closer, and you appreciate... [Read More]

For the next few days the automotive news coming out of New York City won't be from Wall Street, but from the Jacob Javits Convention Center - where the 109th annual New York International Auto Show is being held.
Instead of horror stories about tumbling stock prices and poor sales figures, there is genuine automotive news about exciting new vehicles and forward-thinking concept cars.
It might surprise you to learn that even in a downturned economy the NY Auto Show will play host to dozens of new model unveilings, many of which we have already brought you news on - plus a select few that are being kept under wraps until the covers come off on the show room floor.
In the first category, some of the most highly-anticipated include the 518hp Mercedes-Benz E63 and 555hp BMW X5 M and X6 M, as well as the GMC Terrain, Yukon Denali Hybrid and the 2010... [Read More]
